About the role

At Invert, we are dedicated to automating the design, execution, and analysis of bioprocesses, contributing to advancements in biomaterials, disease therapies, and sustainable chemical production. Our team values diversity and welcomes individuals from all backgrounds to join our remote-first, collaborative environment. While previous experience with biology is appreciated, it is not a prerequisite.

We are excited to invite talented engineers, data scientists, biologists, and more to our fast-growing team. Invert is supported by experienced investors, including Y Combinator, and industry CEOs. Joining us means making a significant impact on a critical problem space.

What you'll do

As an engineer at Invert, you will contribute to all aspects of the product, including designing and building data models, APIs, and user experiences within the dynamic realm of digital biology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead feature implementations: Drive the development of features to facilitate rapid iteration, evolution, and scalability, aligning with Invert's technical direction and overall company strategy.
  • Contribute to daily goals: Balance trade-offs between speed, reliability, UX, and technical debt to deliver on our cycle goals and long-term visions.
  • Full-stack engineering: Engineer solutions across Invert's full stack, covering APIs, business logic, database models, frontend functionality and styling, infrastructure, ingestion pipelines, and more.
  • Customer engagement: Actively collect feedback from customers and users to inform product development, new features, and territory coverage.
  • Ownership: Share ownership of product reliability, process effectiveness, and tooling, continuously improving the user and developer experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience at a high-growth B2B SaaS company.
  • Experience in biology, with a preference for synthetic biology or fermentation (nice to have!).

What we're building on

  • Backend: Python, FastAPI, and MongoDB.
  • Infrastructure: Terraform IaC hosted on AWS.
  • Frontend: Next.js with TypeScript and TailwindCSS hosted on Vercel.
  • Data management: RTK Query for seamless communication between APIs and UI.
  • Ingestion engine: Proprietary engine for user-driven data transformations.
  • Collaboration tools: GitHub, Linear, Slack, Notion.

What we offer

  • Early-stage, high-growth startup with impactful work.
  • Work-life balance and flexible hours.
  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Employee-friendly equity terms (early exercise, extended exercise window).
  • New laptop, monitors, and accessories of your choice.
  • Paid co-working space/desk or stipend for your remote home workstation.
  • Quarterly team offsite.
  • Unlimited PTO.

At Invert, we believe in fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace, and we encourage all individuals to apply and bring their unique perspectives to our team.

About Invert

Invert is working to automate the design and execution of bioprocesses. Our tools are crucial, as scientists make new biomaterials to solve the environmental crisis, invent new therapies to combat disease, and produce essential chemicals cleanly.

We're a multi-disciplinary team who love learning about each others’ fields, and are very comfortable working with people who haven't previously worked on biology.

You will be joining a fast-growing team of highly ambitious engineers, data scientists, biologist, and more. We're backed by smart investors including Y Combinator and CEOs from industry. We're just getting started, so joining our team will mean having a large impact on a very important problem space.
