About the role

Note -

ABOUT US:

Repool is a fintech software company that is modernizing infrastructure for hedge funds. US hedge funds account for $3.5T of assets but rely upon antiquated services and technology from fractured service providers, and there's an enormous opportunity to challenge longstanding incumbents and gain significant market share.

Founded in 2021, Repool is a YC S21 with over $6M in funding from top firms like Canaan, Matrix, and Uncorrelated, as well as angel investors including founders from unicorns like Brex, Jeeves, Mercury, Flexport, Outschool, Pilot, and Forge.

The team currently has 8 employees, primarily in NYC. However, this role will be based in SF on a hybrid basis (our co-founder and CTO, Justin, is in SF). You'll be the third person in the SF office.

THE ROLE:

We're hiring for a full-stack engineer to join the team (currently 3 engineers).

You must have 3+ years of post-graduate, full time-experience to be considered for this role.

You'll own large portions of product and help to build out a dream team of engineers and culture. Our ideal candidate is thoughtful and product-drive; someone who wants to ship a lot of features, gain exposure to many areas of the business, and meaningfully impact the direction of the product.

The role will be flexible hybrid WFH/in-person. We believe that having an in-person presence in the early days is critical for team-building, morale, and culture.

WHAT YOU'LL DO HERE

  • Help establish and influence engineering process, culture, systems, code base, and all things relating to engineering.
  • Ship exceptional, thoughtful features and code!
  • Help make strategic decisions about what to build, why, and when, as well as how to approach business challenges associated with early-stage startups
  • Collaborate directly with the cofounders on what to build and how to build it, and really all things relating to the business
  • Drive the engineering and product roadmaps based on customer feedback and thoughtful analysis

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • At least 3 years of full-time professional software engineering experience.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills
  • A desire to be a part of and help build out great culture as the team grows
  • Experience with one or more common web application frameworks (Phoenix, Rails, Django, etc.)
  • Experience with at least one relational database system

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Passions outside of work!
  • Experience with React, GraphQL, and Elixir/Phoenix
  • Previous startup experience
  • Previous finance experience
  • A passion for investing, creator economies, and/or finance

REPOOL BENEFITS:

Despite being a very early stage startup, you'll find that we provide benefits better than most companies our stage. We don't want joining early to mean critical concessions in security or your well being. Consequently, we're proud to offer:

  • Highly competitive salary and a meaningful equity stake
  • 100% covered, top-of-the-line health insurance, dental, and vision
  • 401k w/match
  • 100% covered life insurance, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance.
  • HSA and FSA company contributions
  • Commuter benefits
  • Optional critical illness, voluntary life insurance supplement, accident, and hospital insurance options
  • Unlimited PTO

WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO US:

  • Leaning in. Startups aren't where you go to make the absolute most money, have the best work-life balance, or the easiest role. That's not for everyone, but the worst situation is people who join startups wanting only the "upsides" and not the "downsides.". You should know that building a startup is hard, and while we aim to have work-life balance, this just isn't a 9-5 job, and it's also not a role where you can coast. Great companies that become unicorns universally have incredible early employees who leaned in and helped build the company. That said, we also believe in reasonable expectations.
  • Culture. Between the two of us, we've been at companies with great culture, okay culture, and bad culture, and while there's no one way to have an amazing culture, there are many ways to have bad cultures. We want Repool to be a transformative, inspiring, and enjoyable place to work, and we're really interested in hiring for other people who feel similarly.
  • Building great product and moving quickly. Our operating philosophy is to seek the truth, debate earnestly, and then - lastly, decide and go.
  • Becoming more formidable. Whether it's in 8 years or 2 years, we know it's unlikely that Repool is the last stop of your life and professional journey. We care deeply about supporting you in using Repool to get to whatever's next.

About Repool

Repool is building modern hedge fund infrastructure. We make it extremely easy and fast to launch and operate hedge funds, like Carta/Angellist for hedge funds.

We're attacking the legacy fund services space, which is a multi-dozen-billion dollar industry, yet comprised almost entirely by antiquated, manual-workflow heavy incumbents with human-capital intensive workflow. There's an immense opportunity for disruption as a true first-mover (see Angellist's $4B valuation doing something very similar with venture) that's incredibly exciting, and investors agree - just two months after being founded, we raised $3.7M in our Seed round from top investors like Canaan, Matrix, and Global Founders Capital, with angel investors like the founders of Brex, Mercury, Jeeves, and Forge.

Repool is an extremely transparent company with a focus on making sure we provide a transformative career experience for our employees - regardless of our own growth trajectory. We care deeply about avoiding common startup pitfalls and building a strong, reasonable, and formidable culture that helps employees with their next step, whether that be in 2 years or 10 years, and whether that be as a manager or IC. We also think that we are - given the space we're in - taking on some truly novel fintech and regtech challenges that are intellectually interesting no matter where you sit in the org.

At Repool, you'll closely with two founders who have robust prior operating experience at extremely successful growth startups. Justin was a senior and early engineer at Brex, where he was known for being an exceptional project manager and particularly strong at solving complex regulatory challenges via engineering. Kevin was the Head of Revenue and employee #4 at Vitally, where he lead the team to a Series A from a16z.

Come join us! Or, at least, think about joining us :)
