Founding Research Engineer

As Atla’s founding research engineer, you will build systems that automate the most complex knowledge work in the world and achieve levels of performance previously considered unattainable. As part of your role, you will:

• Develop novel, accurate AI algorithms and advanced systems for large scale applications.
• Define use cases and develop methodology and benchmarks to evaluate different approaches.
• Work closely with founders, advisors, and top-tier researchers to navigate the complexities of AI alignment.
• Build and grow our applied research organization, setting a high bar of excellence that propels Atla forward.
• Tackle unsolved product and engineering challenges - the hardest in the world for LLMs in production.

Please note that this role is in-person with at least 4 days per week in the office.

Qualifications

Evidence of exceptional ML engineering ability:

• Strong software engineering experience with software design/architecture skills, preferably in Python.
• Demonstrated ability in productionizing and optimizing large-scale ML systems, preferably LLMs.
• Proficiency in PyTorch, GPU utilization, and language modeling with transformers.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
• Aptitude for distilling and applying ideas from complex research papers in our products.
• Experience at elite AI research labs (OpenAI, Google Brain, DeepMind, etc.).
• Experience working in complex and high-stakes ML domains (self-driving cars, search, ads, quant finance).

• Publications in top AI conferences.
• Experience as an early engineer at a fast-growing startup.
